This fun and festive white chocolate Hanukkah Bark makes a sweet (and easy!) treat to make for friends and family over the holidays. Creamy white chocolate is melted and swirled with blue candy melts and topped with sprinkles, M&Ms, and chocolate chips.
Every Hanukkah the kiddo and I make the usual treats: crispy potato latkes, cozy matzo ball soup, sufganiyot (jelly filled donuts), and assorted hanukkah cookies to decorate and share. We celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah so this time of year is always so full of love and traditions.
This year we decided to add another treat to the mix and created the most ADORABLE white chocolate Hanukkah bark!
It’s ridiculously easy to make and so fun to decorate for the holidays!
Not gonna lie, while I’m excited to scarf this beautiful blue bark all week, I’m even more excited to gift some to neighbors and share the love!
In this post I’ll include my favorite chocolate and melts to use as well as tips on flavoring options and all the marvelous mix-in options. Let’s get started!
White Chocolate Bark Toppings
These are my favorite mix-and-match toppings to add to white chocolate bark.
For a Hanukkah theme I picked up various sprinkles from a few different places — I’ll add links for the items that have them but feel free to shoot me a comment if you’re looking for anything in particular and I’ll be happy to help! xo
- M&Ms
- mini white chocolate chips
- white chocolate chips or chunks
- blue, white, and silver sprinkles and stars
- mini marshmallows
- snowflake sprinkles
- hanukkah gelt (chocolate coins)
- chopped golden oreos
- blue candy melts for melting + drizzling
Q: What type of white chocolate should I use?
Flavor and texture is the name of the game when it comes to white chocolate bark and my biggest tip is to use a quality chocolate.
I always use Ghirardelli white chocolate for candy-making. I try to keep the 4 oz bars in my pantry at all times and Ghirardelli white chocolate chips are so good that I’ve even used those in a pinch and they’ve worked great! Their white chocolate tastes amazing and melts like a dream.
I’ve heard Guittard is another fantastic option but it’s a bit spendy for me.
Q: Can I dye white chocolate blue?
If you prefer not to use melted blue candy wafers for the blue swirls in the back, you can 100% dye some white chocolate blue! To dye white chocolate, you will need to use oil-based food coloring or powdered candy coloring.
If you use gel or liquid (water-based) food coloring (which is what most of us keep on hand) the water will react with the chocolate, causing it to seize up and harden. I’ve gotten away with the tiniest bit of gel coloring in white chocolate before but it’s super hard to work with. It hardens so fast so not great for swirling or spreading.
Q: Can I flavor the chocolate?
Absolutely! I like to add two teeny drops of food-grade peppermint oil to the white chocolate for a festive peppermint bark flavor! The bark is also great without any flavor added if you prefer to let the white chocolate shine.
If adding peppermint oil or extract, start with the tiniest little drop, taste test, and then increase slowly as desired.
Toppings like crushed golden oreo cookies and milk chocolate M&M candies will add a little extra flavor of their own which is great too!
Hanukkah Bark
Ready to make your white chocolate bark? I’m so excited for y’all to join me in this fun family tradition!
We celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah (love it) and I plan on including both peppermint bark and Hanukkah bark in our holiday cookie boxes this year. They’re probably the easiest thing going in those boxes this year, lol!
White Chocolate Hanukkah Bark
Ingredients
- 8-10 ounces Ghirardelli white chocolate baking bar (chopped) or Ghirardelli white chocolate chips
- 6 ounces light blue candy melts
- 1-2 drops peppermint extract or food-safe peppermint oil (OPTIONAL)
- ⅓-½ cup blue M&M candies for topping
- 3-4 TBSP assorted sprinkles for topping
- 2-3 TBSP white chocolate chips for topping
MORE TASTY TOPPING OPTIONS
- chopped golden oreo cookies
- mini marshmallows
- hanukkah gelt (chocolate coins)
- crushed candy canes (for more mint flavor)
Instructions
- Place white chocolate (chopped bar or chips) in a medium heat-safe bowl.
- Microwave for 90 SECONDS on 50% POWER. Remove and stir then return to microwave for 30 seconds at 50% POWER. Repeat as needed until chocolate is glossy and just melted.
- NOTE: It is important to use the 50% power setting as to not burn the chocolate. If unsure how to use this setting, microwave on regular power for 30 second intervals, removing the bowl and stirring between each interval.
- If adding optional peppermint oil or extract for a peppermint bark flavor, start by adding the tiniest little drop into the melted white chocolate. Mix well, taste test, and then increase that amount slowly, to taste. I usually like 2 small drops in mine.
- Next heat your blue candy melts/wafers in the microwave in a heat-safe bowl. Follow package instructions. Mine required me to melt for 1 MINUTE at 50% power then heat in 30 SECOND intervals until fully melted.
- Line a 11 x 17" or 9 x 13″ baking sheet with parchment paper (preferred) or foil.
- Pour white chocolate onto the parchment paper and use a silicone spatula/scraper to smooth into a rectangle.
- Drizzle melted blue candy wafers on top and use a toothpick to create swirls.
- Top with sprinkles, M&M candies, white chocolate chips, and any extras your heart desires!
- Pop it in the fridge for about 20 minutes or until the chocolate is completely set. Remove from the fridge and let the bark sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Cut or break into pieces and serve. Happy Hanukkah! xoxo
