Chunky Guacamole with Tomatoes and Cilantro in a Bowl

I am so behind on posting this it’s a tad ridiculous.

I’ve had my homemade DIY Guacamole Seasoning recipe on the blog for over a decade but I never seem to get around to posting all my tasty guac variations on here. That all changes right meow.

This chunky guacamole recipe is a MUST if you love your guac fully loaded.

My 9 year old, ever the purist, still insists we make it with nothing but my seasoning blend and a spoonful of spicy salsa verde but I’m team ALL-THE-MIXINS. I’ll typically halve our guac so I can keep hers simple and then load up a bowl for Paul and I with tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime. YES PLEASE!

I finally got my act together and photographed a big ole bowl of the stuff so I can share the recipe here.

Love it so!

Chunky Guacamole Ingredients

  • avocados
  • tomatoes
  • red onion
  • jalapeño
  • fresh cilantro
  • lime juice
  • guacamole seasoning (recipe below)

I like to finely dice my onion, tomatoes, and jalapeño so I can get a little of each in each bite but feel free to roughly chop them if you’d like your guacamole even chunkier!

You can also only mash half the avocado and leave the rest diced. Anything goes when it comes to guac!

Homemade Seasoning Blend

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin, plus extra to taste
  • 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

This blend makes enough for this chunky guacamole recipe but feel free to make some extra to have on hand any time you want to make guac! I keep a little jar of it in my spice drawer at all times.

Simply combine the ingredients and mix well. That’s it! This blend is great for taking your avocados to the next level and I’m so crazy in love with the flavor that I never make guacamole without it.

Chunky Guacamole with Tomato and Cilantro

Ever the millennial, I’m the kind of person who could easily eat guacamole daily. Diving in face-first with some crispy tortilla chips is always fun but it’s great on so many recipes.

Here are some favorites I love to to guac-ify:

I could go on for days. Weeks, even. But of course I won’t since you need to get this gorgeous green guacamole in your face, stat!

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados (medium sized)
  • 2 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 jalapeño pepper
  • ¼-½ cup finely diced red onion
  • 2-3 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small lime
  • guacamole seasoning (recipe below)

Homemade Guacamole Seasoning

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried cilantro
  • ¼ tsp ground cumin or extra, to taste
  • ¼ tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • ¼-½ tsp salt to taste

Instructions

  • To make the seasoning blend, combine the spices in a small bowl and mix.
  • Slice each avocado in half, remove the pit, and use a spoon to scoop out the avocado from each peel.
  • Add avocado to a medium bowl and fork mash until desired consistency is reached. You can make this guac as chunky (or smooth) as you'd like!
  • Next dice tomatoes and prep the jalapeño. Remove the stem and slice in half. For a spicier guacamole, leave some of the seeds intact. For a mild guacamole, use a spoon to scoop out the insides of each half of the pepper. Dice or finely mince jalapeños depending on desired consistency. If you haven't already. finely dice ¼-½ cup of red onion.
  • Add onion, jalapeño, tomato, 2 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro, and juice of half a lime to the bowl along with the homemade seasoning blend.
  • Mix and dive in with a tortilla chip to taste test. If you'd like, add the juice of the remaining half of the lime and any additional salt, cumin, and cilantro your heart desires. Enjoy!
