This easy and delicious blackberry greek yogurt bowl is topped with fresh berries, crunchy granola, and an easy homemade blackberry syrup! Pile on your favorite extras and get ready to breakfast it up!
It’s blackberry season!!!
AKA the time of year I eat so many blackberries I practically turn into one.
When we lived in FL we actually had wild ones growing in our front yard but I haven’t figured out how to grow them here in TX yet. Instead I’ll be raiding my local farmer’s market until the blackberries are no more.
If you’re also a huge fan of these juicy spring berries, this recipe is for you!
It’s a breakfast bowl of epic proportions featuring a creamy Greek yogurt, my famous homemade granola (though you can use store-bought granola too), an easy DIY blackberry syrup, and a mountain of fresh berries.
It’s quite delicious. Let’s get our recipe on!
Yogurt Bowl Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this yummy yogurt bowl!
Greek Yogurt
We’ll be using Greek yogurt as the protein-packed base. If you only have regular yogurt handy, that will absolutely work too – no worries!
2% or full-fat Greek yogurt will be the smoothest and creamiest and you can use plain, honey, vanilla, or berry varieties.
Fresh Berries
The blackberries are for sure the star of the show here, so feel free to add as many as your heart desires. You can use blackberries alone or add in some juicy blueberries and/or fresh chopped strawberries like I did for a marvelous mixed-berry medley.
Homemade Blackberry Syrup
This stuff is AMAZING! The kiddo and I started making it a few years ago to top homemade snow cones and now it’s a fridge staple in the Spring and Summer months.
Feel free to make it in advance to drizzle over yogurt, cobbler, snow cones, ice cream, pancakes, waffles, and more!
- 1/2 cup blackberries, fresh or frozen
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
To make the syrup, combine berries, water, and sugar together in a small saucepan over low heat, whisking occasionally until sugar is dissolved, approx. 5 minutes. Increase heat to medium and bring to a gentle bubbling boil, stirring often, until mixture has thickened, about 15 minutes.
Mash blackberries well with a fork (or blend with an immersion blender) and strain through a sieve/strainer for a thick, smooth syrup. For a compote, feel free to leave the mixture chunky! After syrup has cooled, stir in lemon juice and seal/store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Granola
My favorite granola to use with yogurt bowls is my super simple Healthy Homemade Granola Recipe.
You can also use my Cinnamon Raisin Granola or Maple Pecan Granola if you’d like to add some dried fruit in on the fun!
I usually make a batch of homemade granola as part of my weekly meal-prep and add it to yogurt bowls, granola cookies, and straight to my face by the handful. So good!
Of course store-bought granola works just as good! If you have some already chilling in your pantry, go for it!
