Spicy Guacamole

Guacamole is basically it’s own food group around here and this jalapeño studded Spicy Guacamole is quick, easy, and forever a crowd pleaser!

Spicy Guacamole

The speed at which I put food in my face is so alarmingly fast I worry I may lose a finger one of these days. Or at least eat a fork.

Luckily when it comes to guac, I rarely miss.

Unless you’re talking about getting it all over my clothes which I will surely do 9/10 times.

The last time I had avocado toast I ended up wearing so much of it that I was convinced my 9 year old was secretly flinging mashed avo at me while I wasn’t looking.

I suppose I need a bib. Or maybe I’ll take my own advice for a change and eat slower…

Nahhhhh!

So far I’ve blogged my crazy delicious DIY Guacamole Seasoning recipe and a fully loaded ultra Chunky Guacamole with tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, lime, cilantro… the works!

Today’s guacamole, however, packs some HEAT!

We’re going to leave all the seeds and goodies intact when mincing up our jalapeño pepper and add some fire to the seasoning blend for a deliciously spicy guacamole.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Spicy Guacamole Ingredients

  • 3 ripe and ready avocados
  • ¼-½ cup finely diced red onion
  • 2 jalapeño peppers
  • 2-3 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro
  • spicy guacamole seasoning (recipe below)

Spicy Seasoning Blend

  •  ½-¾ tsp garlic powder
  • ½-¾ tsp ground cayenne pepper, spice to taste
  • ¼-½ tsp ground cumin, plus extra to taste
  • ¼ tsp salt

No ground cayenne pepper handy? Try it with crushed red pepper flakes! We’re also getting a nice kick of spice from the jalapeño seeds so how hot your pepper is will help determine how spicy your guac is.

One of my favorite mix-ins for spicy guacamole is a local Texas salsa that’s pretty much available nationwide. Mrs. Renfro’s Green Salsa is my love language when it comes to everything from guac to tacos and, unlike typical green salsas, it’s made with a base of jalapeño peppers instead of tomatillos and holy cow is it good! Not sponsored, just a love letter to my favorite jarred salsa ever. I used to order cases of it when I couldn’t find it back in the day but these past few years I’ve been able to locate it everywhere I’ve moved. Woot!

Spicy Homemade Guacamole

This gorgeous green guacamole is so easy to make!

Simply mince your onion and peppers, using the seeds to control your spice level.

Combine with mashed avocado, spicy seasoning blend, lime juice and cilantro.

Taste test, adjust your spices to taste and dive in face-first with some crispy tortilla chips or dollop it on tacos, nachos, burritos, tostadas, and more!

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados medium sized
  • 1-2 jalapeño peppers (see instructions)
  • ¼-½ cup finely diced red onion
  • 2-3 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small lime, halved

SPICY GUACAMOLE SEASONING

  • ½-¾ tsp ground cayenne pepper spice to taste
  •  ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp salt to taste

Instructions

  • To make the seasoning blend, combine the spices in a small bowl and mix.
  • Slice each avocado in half, remove the pit, and use a spoon to scoop out the avocado from each peel.
  • Add avocado to a medium bowl and fork mash until desired consistency is reached. You can make this guac as chunky (or smooth) as you'd like!
  • Next prep the jalapeño(s). Remove the stem and slice in half. For a spicier guacamole, leave the seeds intact. For a mild guacamole, use a spoon to scoop out the insides of each half of the pepper. If you want your spice level somewhere in between use the cayenne pepper and seeds to perfectly spice your dip. Finely mince jalapeño. If you haven't already. finely dice ¼-½ cup of red onion.
  • Add onion, jalapeño,, 2 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro, and juice of half a lime to the bowl along with the homemade seasoning blend.
  • Mix and dive in with a tortilla chip to taste test. If you'd like, add the juice of the remaining half of the lime and any additional salt, cumin, cayenne, and cilantro your heart desires. Enjoy!
