This quick and easy Asparagus Pasta is ready to rock pasta night! This creamy homemade fettuccine Alfredo recipe features buttery asparagus, flavorful pesto, and a dusting of parmesan cheese for good measure. We love it!
It was only a matter of time that I’d combine two of my favorite foods into one delicious dish.
Tender seasoned asparagus and creamy fettuccine Alfredo were clearly meant to be. I added a little fresh pesto for good measure (oh YES!) and an extra sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese on top and now I basically want to marry this saucy skillet!

Asparagus Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce

Serve it up with a leafy green salad and some fresh garlic bread to round out the meal – YUM!
Asparagus Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce
Ingredients
- 6 oz dry fettuccine noodles
- 8 oz asparagus ends removed
- 1 tsp olive oil
- salt pepper, and cayenne pepper, to taste
- 2 TBSP butter
- ½ cup of heavy cream
- ¼-½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp black pepper and any additional salt to taste
- 1 TBSP pesto homemade or store-bought
Instructions
- Grab a medium pot and cook fettuccine noodles according to package directions. I like to undercook mine by a minute or two since they will spend a few extra minutes in the sauce.
- While your noodles boil, prep and measure out the remaining ingredients.
- Heat a skillet to medium-high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Add asparagus and cook until tender, approx. 5 minutes. Toss with a teeny pinch of salt, pepper, and of cayenne pepper and set aside.
- Once the noodles are al-dente and tender, strain in a colander, and reduce heat to medium-low (about a 4 on the dial).
- Add the noodles back to the pot with butter, heavy cream, parmesan cheese, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Stir frequently with a fork until the sauce thickens (approx. 5-10 minutes).
- Once the sauce is deliciously thick and creamy, stir in asparagus and pesto, and grab a teeny bite to taste test. Feel free to add extra garlic, salt, pepper an even some extra cayenne pepper for a little zing!
- Top with a little extra grated parmesan cheese (YUM!) and dig in!

Hi Allison,
Do you happen to have the calories per serving for this wonderful dish?
Hi Joe! It should be approx. 754 calories each for 2 large servings or 500 calories each for three servings. Sometimes my husband and I get ravenous and split the whole recipe in half and other times we actually share with the kiddo and split it into three servings with a light salad on the side.
Simple and delicious! Admittedly, I am someone who might ordinarily be tempted to just throw some pesto on top of plain noodles, but this homemade sauce really elevates this dish with minimal extra effort. Similarly, I would normally throw store bought finely shredded Parmesan, but I can really taste the difference with the freshly grated cheese. Will definitely make this again!
My boyfriend and I absolutely loved this! He is a big fan of fettuccine alfredo, and this was his first time making it at home! He is a very beginner chef and was able to do it (and felt VERY impressive doing so). So yummy and simple!
Thank you Allison! I’m super stoked y’all enjoyed the recipe!
Ohhh this sounds super delicious! I love the pesto in the asparagus and I like your idea about adding extra veggies like peas. Broccoli would be good too.
My entire family loves asparagus and this was a hit with them! I can’t wait to make it again!
What a delicious looking dish! I am so drooling over here! Love fresh asparagus and pasta together and a little pesto always brightens things up. I’m definitely going to put this on my must-make list (with maybe a little chicken added in for the T-Rex in me – lol)
Both veggie and T-rex versions rock our socks – so stoked for you to try this asparagus pesto pasta, Linda! Thanks!
