Charleston SC Eats + What I Ate Wednesday

Helloooooo stranger! Or should I say strangers? Actually, let’s pretend we’re not total strangers so I can confess that I’ve missed you guys like crazy! I didn’t intend on taking such a hefty blog break but between an impromptu getaway and a whole lot of crazy, I kind of vanished off the face of the internets! Let’s put a stop to that ay-sapp [ASAP even] and get back to our heavy rotation of good food and plate-licking veggies!

I stashed away a dozen or so recipes for you so get ready to EAT!

Since it’s Wednesday let’s kick things off with a day of eats from my recent visit to Charleston, SC where I proceeded to eat my way through the entire city. I think I’ll need to visit at least two more times to even make a dent in my to-nom list, but I enjoyed every bite of my first round of Charleston!

Charleston SC Eats + What I Ate Wednesday

Breakfast at Delish in Charleston SC :: Strawberry French Toast

[BREAKFAST] Delish :: Cinnamontastic Strawberry French Toast + Coffee

Butcher and Bee Charleston :: Pimento Cheese Burger

[LUNCH] Butcher and Bee :: Paul and I each ordered the Pimento Cheese Burger with a side of homemade ketchup and fries. It was nothing short of legendary! I rarely order burgers but after hearing oh-so-much about how legendary this one is, I had to give it a try! To say it lived up to the hype is an understatement. I would easily drive out of my way during our next road trip to scarf another. So good!

Charleston Lowcountry Bistro

[DINNER] Lowcountry Bistro :: Moonshine Margaritas :: Honey Hushpuppies :: SheCrab Soup :: Caesar Salad :: Cornbread :: Everything was amazing! I could have sworn I took photos of everything but somehow my soup didn’t make it onto my phone. It was phenomenal! We had the upstairs patio to ourselves for most of the night which led to an impromptu chickpea dance party of epic proportions.

Sorry about the horrendous iPhone photos! I take my vacations quite seriously and left my food blogger “hat” at home. It was beyond glorious to unwind and relax and not have to worry about a single thing! We had so much fun!

Here are a few more photos from the trip! <3

And yes I totally died of cute when she kissed the otter.

Trish

Looks like you had an amazing vacation!

    Jenn

Thanks Trish! I’m so bummed that it’s over! I want to go back!

Anna-Marie@Beauty and the Beets

Butcher and Bee is my FAVORITE place in the whole world! They had pulled squash sandwiches when I was there and brussels sprouts. I wish I lived there just to eat there whenver I wanted! Glad you had a good time.

    Jenn

Ohmygosh I’m going to have to visit every season to try all their new dishes! YUM!

Kathryn Doherty

I love Charleston and it’s amazing food! I can’t ever seem to get through my list of places to try, especially when there are so many I have to go to every time. (Graze, Mustard Seed and Triangle Char Bar in Mt Pleasant are faves. Also Taco Boy and Husk.) Will definitely check out Butcher and Bee next trip! Also, the Charleston Children’s Museum is awesome for little kids! Bah, now I’m hungry and sad not to be there!

    Jenn

haha Yes!!! I have so much more to do there — Let’s go back! 🙂

Hilary

I have always wanted to visit Charleston! I have heard so many good things about the food scene there! I am sure I will make it eventually but thanks for sharing these yummy places, I will have to put them down on the list!

    Jenn

Michele @ paleorunningmomma

I saw that cheeseburger and fries on Instagram and it made an impression! Everything you eat always looks fantastic without fail 🙂

    Jenn

Marnie @ SuperSmartMama

I have family in Charleston and love LOVE love when we take trips out there because I know we’ll be eating some GREAT food. I’ll have to check out Butcher & Bee the next time I’m in town!

    Jenn

Yay! What a perfect “excuse” to visit often! <3 My family is mostly in FL and I try to visit whenever I can!

Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl

That vacation looks both delicious and fun! And those strawberries and French toast…loving the springtime berries!

Lisa @ exercise eat repeat

Oh it looks like you have had a lovely time and it looks so sunny 🙂

Georgie

Little bloggy breaks can be great to get you more excited when you get back. Love being able to go off the grid for a bit. Your daughter is just too cute <3 Happy Wednesday Jenn

christina

aww charleston. 🙂 glad you had a nice time!

    Jenn

I totally chickened out on half the restaurants I wanted to visit for fear that packing a kiddie lunch for the little would get me dirty looks galore. She held her own at a few non-kiddie places though so I should just suck it up next time and drag her to Husk, eh? 😉

tiff @ love, sweat, & beers

Looks so good!! Charleston is a city that knows her food!

Rachel {the avid appetite}

oh i love charleston! my sisters and i took my mom there last year for her 60th birthday and we had such a great time! the food was amazing. my favorite meal was lunch at husk!

    Jenn

I need to go back to visit Husk! I was scared to bring the chickpea there and get dirty looks for my wild child! eek!

Maureen

Yummy eats & a great vacation. Life is good! 🙂

    Jenn

It makes my ovaries feel funny

Amy @ Amy M4gic

I visited Charleston once, when I was much younger and still had a really picky palate. You’ve officially convinced me that I need to go back and do a food tour with my husband!

    Jenn

Yess!!!! GO BACK! You’ll adore it! <3

May

It always makes me so happy to see visitors come to our beautiful city and get to explore the food scene. Butcher and Bee is one of my all time favorites! Come back soon!

    Jenn

Aw thanks May! I shall! It was the best weekend!!!

Amber @ Slim Pickin's Kitchen

Yay! I’m so glad my hometown treated you well. It makes my heart happy. Hopefully next time I’ll be in town when y’all visit, and I can take y’all on a locals only tour!

    Jenn

That would be awesome! We need to meet somewhere halfway between us before I move this summer! I need our babies to be besties!

Ashley @ A Lady Goes West

Hi Jenn! I’ve never been to Charleston, and that’s not cool. Especially because I love the show Southern Charm on Bravo hehehe. But your eats look good. While not always a burger eater, I’ve been a burger kick because my hubby has been making them on the grill for us at least once a week. Yummy!

Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets

Vacation eats are always the best, although tonight I shall have an egg sandwich and think of you.

The chickpea on his shoulders…..love that picture. It’s everything.

Heather @ Life In Leggings

I’ve never been to Charleston, but it looks great! All of that food…. YUM. Love seeing pics of the little one. She’s adorable. <3

Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola

Whenever I go to Charleston, I end up getting fried oysters pretty much every single day. They are my fav!

Whitney Carney

Looks like an awesome trip full of awesome food! 🙂 That burger and fries looks killer.

Mary Legare Whaley

Heck yes! This is where I live, and this is where I’ve lived since day 1 of my life (minus college + 4 months post-college at a job that was WELL worth leaving to get back down here!). I’m so glad you enjoyed your time in Charleston. We’ve got good food, good people, and goodness all around. Come back and visit soon! 🙂

Rachel

Charleston is one of the few places I miss in SC. We moved from SC to AZ about 4 yrs ago. They do have amazing food there, and I definitely miss the She-Crab Soup. The cinnamon strawberry french toast looks amazing!
