[lunch] homemade sushi :: [recipe] Since we’re still stranded in NC for the time being, the best sushi joint in town is right in our own kitchen! We made shrimp tempura rolls and smoked salmon rolls with cucumber, bell pepper, and avocado.

  • I have been on quite the sushi kick lately! I am totally trying that out tomorrow for dinner! Hey full of rice, perfect night before my long run meal!

  • No. Way.

you made that sushi? When i saw it on insta, I thought you were on tokyo. (the name of a Jap restaurant here. Let’s not get too overboard here)

  • Nobody can make me crave an egg sammie like you can.

Confession: I’ve never eaten sushi. Gasp, although I feel better having gotten that off my chest. Don’t worry there’s plenty of tatas left.

  • Your sushi looks delicious! I’ve never tried to make sushi myself, mainly because I’m very lazy 🙂

I’ll let you skip the wait-list if you bring sake with you! <3

  • Vegas and I were just talking about needing to have a sushi party. She has all the Asian dish ware (we found it unpacking) and Heather taught me to roll sushi last summer. Wanna come over?

    • Jenn

      sushi party!!!!!!

  • Emma @ Em-powered Wellness

That homemade sushi is beautiful! Whenever I made my own sushi, I am left with a squishy pile of rice on my plate as it falls out of the seaweed wrapping

    • Jenn

Oh noooo! Try my tutorial! It’s all about the squeeze and press to keep it together!

  • You just encouraged me to go on and get that sushi-making kit I’ve so wanted. 😀

    • Jenn

Yay! All you need are a few inexpensive essentials – if the kit is too pricey the main things you’ll need are the mat, rice vinegar, rice, seaweed sheets and just a few other items and you’re good to go! It winds up being a bajillion times more affordable to belt out rolls at home when the craving strikes!

  • Um… that sushi roll is homemade? It looks perfect! But then again, everything on our blog looks perfect-o. YUM! Thanks for hosting (and co-hosting) WIAW. Have a great week! 🙂

    • Jenn

      gah thanks Heather!

  • I’ve now gone almost two weeks without sushi, and that is a problem! Never tried to make it at home though. Nice job! 🙂

    • Jenn

      Two weeks is toooooo long!

  • Always looks delicious! I need to learn to make some homemade sushi like yours. For some reason I can never get the roll tight enough so it doesn’t fall apart!

  • I need another breakfast now after seeing that egg sandwich. It looks so yummy!

    • Jenn

      Second breakfast FTW!

  • I am impressed- I can’t roll sushi to save my life!

  • I LOVE sushi but have never even attempted to make my own. Any tips for successful sushi-rolling?

  • This is my kind of breakfast! Swap the bread for a cheesy pretzel bun and you have my favorite sandwich of all times!
And I am still always anazed how mouthwatering sushi can look. You’ve sparked a major craving over here!

  • I would love to learn how to make my own sushi! I had spicy tuna for lunch yesterday, but obviously someone else made it for me..

  • Okay, I know this sounds crazy but throw a layer of peanut butter on that egg sammy and you will GO TO HEAVEN!

  • Jenn, I am super impressed with your sushi making skills!!
I remember back in high school I made sushi for a class project my moms good pans trying to make white rice. Whoops! I am definitely going to check out your tips for sushi so I don’t do that again!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

  • Bacon egg and cheese will always hit the spot! I really want to try that potato salad recipe too.
