What I Ate Last Monday

I’m feeling like a good old fashioned ramble is in order today, so I’m just gonna run with it!
Breakfast was bakery-fresh onion-rye toast with cream cheese and a cup of coffee with So Delicious coconut milk creamer — their French Vanilla is my favorite!  Actually, I’m totally overdue for a So Delish giveaway — Stay tuned for one!
My mid-morning snack was a strawberry Siggi’s yogurt. Well, most of it. The chickpea puppy dog pouted her way into snagging a few spoonfuls even though she has her own yogurt; I’m a sucker for her pouty lip!
Lunch was a broccoli slaw smorgasboard! Harris Teeter [my local grocery store] makes bagged blends that are to die for!  This one had loads of veggies with sunflower seeds and cranberries and a tangy dressing.  I buy a bag every few weeks and usually scarf the whole thing in a sitting.  It’s that good!
Dinner was half of a delicious rainbow roll topped with spicy mayo + wasabi sauce and a smattering of green onion. Paul snagged the other half. We also had homemade carnitas that we were so preoccupied scarfing straight from the crock-pot that I failed to take a photo! I made Paul promise to write up his recipe for anyone that is interested, though. He’s becoming quite the whirlwind in the kitchen! Go P!

I still can’t get over the  absolute amazingness that is my grocery store’s sushi counter. They truly are artists!  I’m positively overdue to make another sushipalooza at home but until then, this will absolutely do! Thank goodness the chickpea is still too young to eat sushi; it’s bad enough I have to share with Paul as it is! The nerve!
I always call dibs on any piece with salmon on it!  It’s my favorite!

As usual, your food pictures are fantastic! You make everything look so yummy! I posted about the best sashimi I’ve ever had this week. I’m usually more of a sushi eater, but I thought at Nobu I’d give it a try. LOVED it! Now I don’t think the grocery store will live up to Nobu. 🙁

SO JEALOUS. when I lived in va beach, the sushi chef would make me a free roll while I contemplated which roll I would take home, that’s how often I got it. haha wahhhhhh I miss harris teeterrrrr.

I think it’s a texture thing? I love raw sashimi and paired with the fluffy rice and the salty nori and the crunch of veggies… I’m just hooked! Siggi’s is at Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter and prob a bunch of other stores! I saw a go-gurt version at target yesterday! It’s super tart and has very low sugar and is super duper thick. My seven month old is hooked on it!

Sounds delicious, thanks! I will have to try some now. Yes, it’s definitely a texture thing when it comes to sushi. But I will have to try it with some of that added crunch. I bet that will help! 🙂
