What I Ate Wednesday – Cooler Shenanigans

Houston, we have a deep freezer!!!

I think my life is about to change for the better.  Again.
The first order of business, of course, would be to buy [and make!] a zillion and one things to stuff in it, but I did things a bit backwards.  Paul and I set off on one of our infamous Raleigh//Road//Trips to stock up some of our far away favorites and to simply get away for the weekend.  Normally this is my favorite way to recharge, but we have a tiny hitchhiker… so instead it’s simply fun wrapped in sheer chaos.  I’ll take my fun where I can get it.
Anywho!  We filled a cooler with local eats and Whole Foods goodies and then ordered a deep freezer.
Our first road trip with a tiny human went rather well!  We were even able to scout out a new restaurant and essentially hit the foodie jackpot.
cowfish condiments: mustard, ketchup, sriracha, and soy sauce
“what the whaaaat!?”
Have you ever sat down in a restaurant and thought “Man… I could really go for a burger right now.  With fried pickles.  And edamame.  And… SUSHI!”  No?  Well I do all the freaking time.  And apparently, so do the creators of Cowfish!  It’s half sushi bar, half burger bar, and hands-down the stuff dreams are made of.  The burgers range from veggie to moocow to bison and the sushi?  The sushi menu is pages long.  Pages.  I think I may have died and gone to heaven.
So naturally we started with some sushi…
cowfish sushi
and then dove into a burger:
cowfish turkey cranberry brie burger
and then died of YUM
The juxtaposition was bizzare… and just plain awesome.
Cowfish: Burgers and Sushi!
The sushi roll was packed with asparagus, cucumber, avocado, yellowtail and salmon and it paired oddly, but somehow perfectly, with my cranberry-apple-brie turkey burger.  I also had some thai cucumber salad and half of P’s fried pickles.  Just writing this up makes me want to hop in the car and head back to Raleigh for lunch!

Lauren

Any place is pages and pages of sushi is a WINNER. It looks SO fresh and delicious!

Sarah Pie

That condiment rack is nuts! I was really confused at first but I guess for the burger/sushi joint it makes perfect sense 🙂 Congrats on the deep freezer, now you can store all the foods!

kim@hungryhealthygirl

What an awesome restaurant!! As always thanks for hosting!

Marisa Bateman

That sounds like my dream restaurant. Fried pickles and sushi…done. When I start a restaurant some day, it’s just going to be called pickles and fish. They’ll know that means, right?

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons

I’ll be your biggest fan/customer 🙂

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons

Oh yeeesssss that’s totally me, girl! haha I love the juxtaposition in your meals, indeed. But since I am a sushi lover wherever i go I tend to think, “goshhhh wish I could have a roll right now” but still end up satisfied with the other dishes.

THAT SUSHI – Needs to be IN MY MOUTH! 😀

Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets

I’m thrilled to see you back and getting your WIAW up. The sushi looks delicious, but can we talk about the real excitement here….! You got a DEEP FREEZER. Happy dance, jazz hands, crazy squeals ensue. I’m a so friggen’ excited for you.
Ok, now we need to figure out how we can transport frozen goodies because you can send me half of your stuff and I’ll send you half of mine. We’ll have fully stocked and variety filled freezers. Better yet, move here and we’ll have weekend cooking parties with the sole purpose of filling our freezers. I can hold Mia on my hip while we cook. Mia in one hand, a glass of wine in the other. It’ll be great for my biceps and yes this is reason #765 why I’m not a parent.

Cowfish is the best! So glad that they are expanding!!

Kadee Cramer

As much as I’m starting to love being preggo I cannot WAIT to get some awesome sushi back into my face. 😀

Hi there,
Good to have you back.I’ve been enjoying participating in What I ate Wednesdays and last week submitted two recipes in line with the Halloween theme

AND
