Today I’m sharing the recipe for my favorite go-to DIY Guacamole Seasoning. Make a little… or a lot! Whatever you do don’t make guacamole without it!
Rock Out with Your Guac Out!
I did it.
I swore I’d never have the patience for it… swore it was against my religion to do so… promised myself it needed to happen organically, without an inkling of structure but…
I finally measured out the ingredients for my guacamole seasoning mix!!!
Wait ! What did you think I was going to say!? Holy cow people!
Anyways, I did it. In a shot-glass no less, and endured the most judge-y of eye-brow raises from my husband just so I could finally give you guys an accurate description of how I take an avocado and turn it into something undeniably wonderful. Something that not only has to be licked clean from the bowl, but also any surface it touches. Like the fork you’ll use to mash it. I used to mash my avocados with a butter knife. But licking them was a tad dangerous… And here I go again on a lovely tangent.
Jenn and knives: a recipe for disaster. Though lately the bulk of my injuries are from things like running into the frame of my bed, getting overzealous with the scissors, and poking myself in the eye with a mascara wand.
Wait! Crap! Guacamole! We were talking about guacamole! After all, it’s NATIONAL GUACAMOLE DAY! *throws avocado-shaped confetti* Let’s do this!
Guacamole FTW!
So first up, let’s start with my base guacamole recipe for one avocado. If using smaller avocados, simply use two. Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe as needed and get ready to GUAC!
Ingredients
- 1 jumbo, ripe HAAS Avocado
- 1-2 tsp of Mrs. Renfro’s Green Salsa (or your favorite jar of salsa verde!)
- 3 tablespoons of chopped, ripe tomato
- 1/4 tsp of lime juice for a fruity burst of acidity
Then add the seasoning blend below and any of the below add-ins that rock your socks!
add-ins
- chopped red onion
- fresh, diced jalapeños
- fresh cilantro
instructions
Combine all ingredients, minus the tomatoes. Mash to desired consistency, top with diced tomatoes and dig in! I like mine on the chunkier side — It sticks to the chips better.
Serve up with crispy corn tortilla chips and crunchy veggies of dollop on top of tacos… nachos… anything your heart desires!
DIY Guacamole Seasoning
Ingredients
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ⅛ tsp cumin, or to taste
- ¼ tsp dried cilantro
- 1/8-1/4 tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients and add to your avocado. Mash away! See post for my go-to guacamole recipe.

Nutrition
Feel free to double or quadruple the measurements as needed. I like to make a large batch once every month or so for easy peasy guacamole all month long! It’s crazy convenient!
so . . . how was it?
AMAZING! Duh! The photos came out a little less than stellar because I had a very anxious Marine drooling over the bowl while I tried to get the perfect shot. What we lack in patience we make up for in freaking amazing guacamole. It’s a gift and a curse, really.
Your homework? Go make some guac today!
I’m off to plop myself in front of the fan with Bullet the Ferret — our AC is broken and Fall weather hasn’t exactly kicked in yet. I’m melting.
We absolutely love this recipe! My go to! I make in big batches so it’s always on hand!
So good! We make it all the time. We aren’t big on cilantro, so we just don’t add it. It’s yummy!
Yay! So glad you’re loving the recipe – thanks Keke!
Made a huge batch of this since we’re always making guacamole. I can’t make guac without it!
Yay!!! I’m so happy you’re loving the recipe. My 9 year old will not eat guacamole unless I add this seasoning and a spoonful of salsa verde. We’ll go to restaurants and she’s like ummm something is missing!
Super easy to throw into a quick guac. Used it to pair with nachos. My family always adds Greek yogurt to our mixture.
My very favorite for guacamole!
This is the most perfect recipe for guacamole!
I can’t eat onion. What can I use instead of onion or onion powder. I also like diced tomatoe in my quacamole !!!
Hi Diana! 100% skip any sort of onion in the guacamole. There are some notes in the post about mix-ins you can add like fresh diced tomato, jalapeño, and fresh chopped cilantro — I love adding all three! If you’d like to use a little extra garlic or cumin in place of the onion you can, but I would say simply omit the onion powder and add all the remaining ingredients as written, then after tasting add any extra of your favorites. Enjoy!
Was curious about what spices were needed to make guac. After looking at your recipe, I checked the spice cabinet. I was in luck and proceeded to follow your instructions. It tasted amazing and so easy. I enjoyed it so much, I made it again for my wife when she got home from work last night. She loved it and bought more avocados at the store today. 🙂 Thanks!
5 stars
Turned out great
This is the best simple guacamole recipe. I added 1/8 cumin and 1/4 cayenne. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and even he loves it.
Absolutely delicious! Thank you!
I’m obsessed with guacamole and this is by far one of my favorite guac recipes I’ve tried! It was a hit at my family get together last week and everyone keeps asking me about the recipe! New favorite recipe!!
Yay! So happy to hear it Sophie – glad the recipe was a hit!
It may be good for some people, but just not my thing.
This is just what I was looking for. Thanks for a great recipe!
Yay! So happy to help! We have a jumbo jar of this stuff on hand at all times!
Loved the recipe for the spice blend! Hubby thought it had a bit to much salt however it was perfect for me, I’m always adding more salt to the guac I get at restaurants. Thanks so much, this will will forever be my staple for guacamole from now on!!
Yay! So so glad you’re enjoying it Veronica. Thanks!
Haha! Yes go buy the green stuff! It’s available online too if your stores don’t carry it. I found it at Target, Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods and sometimes Whole Foods has it too. Random places will carry it too =)
Ha! Gauc this way…that’s awesome!
Yay! I’m making another batch tonight! It’ll almost be like we’re sharing a bowl 😉 mwah!
I LOVE guacamole. And I just happen to have 2 avocados that need to be used up!
I love Guac… Its amazing!!! I can’t wait to make this recipe!!!
Love the guac! Looks absolutely delicious and what a fun way to add a little flavor (and even a bit of fiber!) to oh so many foods! Yum!
i love your crazy healthy recipes! and i added avocados and that green salsa stuff (im too lazy to scroll up to see the name) to my shopping list for tomorrow. woohoo!
I am such a plain jane guac eater. I add one small tomato to one avocado then add some garlic and salt. That’s it! I should try this though
that title was pure genius. pure, sheer, genius.
My very fav!! I just love it and could eat it on everything and anything! Do you keep the pit in it too so it doesn’t turn?
AHHHHH-mazing !! I’ve basically made the same – with the exception that I used like the fresh cilatro leaves (however that’s because I love the kick it gives), and I used minced garlic (once again – mainly because I’m garlic-obsessed). However – I actually love the measurements, because I actually made a batch of this and like quadroupbled the recipe and put it in a wee jar for when I make future batches! (And it’s a great seasoning anyways ?!) Thanks Jenn! xo
Guac on a sweet potato?? I need to try this!
Guac is one of the best things in life. Ahhh I could eat it every day… for ever meal. I’ll have to try your recipe next time- I usually just mash up an avocado and add some onion, salt and tomato and lime juice. Simple and great. But- your spices.. yum. I’m on it!
omg. rock out with your … guac out. So I think you’re like the only person that would appreciate that one of my workout playlists (for heavier workouts, with harder songs) is called “boner jamz”
How did I not know it was National Guacamole Day?!?!? Guac is absolutely one of my most favorite foods. Can’t wait to try your recipe – it’s pretty different than mine, but sounds delicious!
___>whispers<___ I cant stand guac 🙂 Theres no hope for me, is there? 🙂
OMG, I will be making this!! I love love love guac! Thanks for sharing
They’re like giant kids… =) We’ll have to start making a plate to photograph and a plate to send them away with!
Oh, how I love guacamole. And Brandon never has patience while I take my food pictures … which is one of the reasons why they never look that great haha! 😉
YUM!
Ohhhh man….
